Sabr: what i strive for with extreme difficulty
November 13, 2009
O you who believe! seek help in patience and salat (prayer). truely Allah is wih the patient.
al baqarah:153
Several types of sabr
-
One for avoiding the prohibitions and sins
-
One for acts of worship and obedience (this type carries more reward than the above)
-
One required in face of the afflictions and hardships (mandatory like tawba)
Abdur Rahman bin zayd bin Aslam said Sabr has two parts :
-
Patience for the sake of Allah concerning what He (swt) is pleased with, i.e act of worship and obediance, even if it is hard on the heart and the body.
-
Patience when avoiding what he(swt) dislikes, even if it is desired. Those who aquire these qualities will be among the PATIENT PERSONS whom Allah shall greet (inshAllah).
SubhanAllah standing up in prayer or doing something with such little action such as morning and evening adhkar is hard on the sick heart, and this is something that we have to be sabr over. (change of colour not by my choice but my daughter is bugging me to change it, lol) any way, Sabr for what?…for the ease that is to come, la ilahi…
Their greeting on the Day they shall meet Him will be “salam” and He has prepared for them a generous reward (i.e paradise)
Ahzab:44
And this sabr carries more reward than staying away from haram! Is laziness this distructful?
One can stay away from sin like usury, fornication, etc but on the other hand abstain from doing that which pleases Allah, or that which Allah has ordered. (THE STRUGGLE)
A hadith comes to mind, the one that the prophet saw said that there was a town in which its people commited zhulm and Allah sent the angels to destroy the town, the angels said but there is a righteous man among them that prays to You, etc, but ALLAH said start with him first because he saw the evil and didnt forbid the people from it and never enjoined the good on them…(paraphrased)
SubhanAllah he (the man) abstained from commiting the sins of his people but this single act of worship he wasnt sabr in perfoming.
Allahu alim
How hard is it to strive to do a good deed?
More personal to home, as a wife and mother of two, how much more easier it is to strive to abstain from doing something that your husband doesnt like, like i’d say ok im not gonna get into an argument, i’ve made an intention of not falling into that which may displease Allah… but when the suggestion is put to me to take it a little further and try to please my husband i’m screaming my head off!saying please NO dont go they, just trying not to anger him is hard enough , all the tip toeing, the biting the tongue, the occuping yourself with the kids (most famous one), but then to go and please him, SubhanAllah, subhanAllah what is this heaviness weighing down the heart…this one isnt laziness, no its not…could it be….PRIDE! Ya Allah! help the sick and sad soul!ameen
You may think wow sisters are jahil, but sadly this plague is real!, and just may be a Jihad in itself for the muslimah!
Just imagin this may bring us closer to jannah and take further away from jahannam…this saddens me cause it all boils down to how much to we want Jannah, how selfish are we gonna be with this treasure jannah…is it gonna slip through our fingers!…
